Being an author is a lonely calling, and it is easy to get caught up in our own head, where our harshest critic resides. It is important to have a strategy in place for those days when the voice of Harsh Critic drowns out all the rest.
Personally, I like to bake showstopper cakes, or play cards with the kids, or binge watch Netflix. In winter I will pick up my quilting or knitting, and while away a couple of hours. I find it helpful to simply walk away from my writing for a while, to refresh my viewpoint and bore my inner Harsh Critic with mundane, everyday things.
