Everyone can write at least one good story, that was the belief of J F Archibald, the editor and founder of the famous nineteenth century weekly, The Bulletin. That thinking led to the establishment of the Furphy Literary Award, to promote and extend the tradition of story telling, both factual and fictional.
This year the competition runs from February 1st until April 30th. You will need to enter via Submittable, and registration and entry is free. The theme for 2020 is Australian Life, with a maximum of 5,000 words allowed.
There is a prize of $15,000, a university residency, and publication opportunities up for grabs, so make yourself comfortable, pick up a pen, and see what happens!
