Every single person has demons that they wrestle with every single day.
Some are easily slain, while others stage an epic battle before being defeated.
Then there are demons so vile, so insidious that they are never defeated. All we can hope for is that we are able to train them, to contain them for a while, even though we know that they are simply lurking at the corners of our subconscious, ever ready to pounce, to lash out, to wound.
Who is your personal demon?
Is it the ever sneaky demon of self doubt, pretending to be your friend before sucker punching you? Or maybe your subconscious hangs out with the ever tiring demon of over achievement?
Maybe you have more than one?
If you let yourself give in to them, while it might seem easier, it will be a harder battle in the long run. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others for help, or to find coping strategies that work for you, especially for the demon of self doubt.
Perhaps you could start a notebook of all the great things you did, no matter how mundane. Did you get out of bed? Take the garbage out? Pay a bill? You are winning! Achievements do not have to be huge to be an achievement.
I, too, hang out with the demon of self doubt from time to time, and have even been known to join him in a pity party, but wallowing, even for a shirt time, serves no purpose.
There is no magic cure, no easy fix for the demon of self doubt, other than perseverance, and remembering that what you see on social media is not real life, it is someone’s highlight reel, that is all. Comparison does nothing other than to steal your own joy.
