Welcome to Sunday Snapshot, where I give readers a glimpse into my life, a small snapshot of who I am behind the novels.
Today I want to talk about inspiration.
Like most authors, I am not blessed with endless free writing hours, nor am I imbued with a muse. What then inspires me? Where do I get my ideas from?
Each situation is a little different, but essentially all the same. Life inspires me. Secret hopes, unspoken dreams, joy, grief, missed connections, wrong choices, unshed tears, day to day drudgery, conversations overheard, glances mistaken for something more…They all meld together inside my brain to seed and flower into snippets of ideas and snatches of plot.
Here are specific things which inspired some of my previous novels…
Fling With The Flying Doctor: Watching a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane fly overhead during an Alice Springs sunset.
Caleb’s Song: A par of skinny black jeans, worn by a man from whom sunshine just seems to flow.
The Surgeon’s Baby: A missed connection.
The Marriage Deal: An argument overhead in the supermarket.
Risking It All: A conversation with a friend over the portrayal of gay men in romance novels.
I doubt that I will ever run out of ideas, as long as life keeps moving.
What inspires you to create?
